The More Alive We Become
In a world that prizes self-expression, personality, and freedom, the concept of obedience to a higher Divine authority may seem counterintuitive to many who do not know EL-YAH “The God of Abraham”. Yet the Bible presents a timeless truth: true individuality and life itself begin when we attach ourselves fully to GOD “YAHWEH” (the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob). Nowhere is this more powerfully demonstrated than in Torah Deuteronomy 3:23–4:4, where Moses recounts his plea to enter the Promised Land, GOD YAHWEH’s stern response, and the reminder that those who clung to Him remained alive.
1. Moses’ Desire vs. GOD YAHWEH’s Sovereign Will
“Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand…” (Deuteronomy 3:24)
Even Moses, the great leader and prophet, had unfulfilled desires. He longed to enter the Promised Land, but GOD YAHWEH, in His righteousness, denied this request due to the consequences of the earlier disobedience of His people, the Israelites (v. 26). Still, Moses did not become bitter. Instead, he used this moment to humbly submit and encourage the next generation, commissioning Joshua for the task.
Moses understood that GOD YAHWEH is merciful, and although he was not allowed to enter the earthly Promised Land at that time, this denial was temporary. He trusted that GOD YAHWEH would bring him into His eternal Kingdom and the New Jerusalem—where only those who belong to GOD will dwell, not those who rebel against Him. Moreover, GOD YAHWEH chose Yehoshua (Joshua) to lead the people into the Promised Land to foreshadow the prophetic fulfillment in the Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus), who would one day lead His people into the true and eternal Promised Land.
Lesson: Sometimes GOD YAHWEH says “no” for a higher purpose. True spiritual maturity is learning to trust His plan even when it doesn’t align with our desires.
2. The Cost of Disobedience
“The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor…” (Deuteronomy 4:3)
This verse is a stark reminder of what happens when people detach themselves from GOD YAHWEH “El-YAH”. The Israelites who turned to idolatry at Baal Peor perished, showing us that spiritual rebellion leads to destruction. There is no lasting life outside of GOD YAHWEH’s presence.
Lesson: Going far from GOD YAHWEH is not just rebellion—it is self-destruction. Detachment from our Creator leads to the death of our true identity and purpose.
3. The Gift of Divine Attachment
“But all of you who held fast to the Lord your God are still alive today.” (Deuteronomy 4:4)
This powerful statement reveals the key to spiritual and even physical preservation: holding fast to GOD YAHWEH. Those who refused to worship false gods and remained devoted to Him were spared. More than just survival, this verse implies that true life is only possible in communion with GOD YAHWEH.
4. True Individuality Is Found in GOD YAHWEH
Many worldly people believe that following GOD YAHWEH suppresses personal identity. In truth, it reveals it. What we often call “personality” is just a mix of inherited traits, social conditioning, and human desires. It is the “animalistic side” or worldly side of our being—common to all humanity.
But when we draw near to GOD “YAHWEH” EL-YAH, something divine awakens within us. Since He is infinite, He expresses Himself uniquely through HIS HOLY WORD to each person. The closer we get to Him, the more our unique, eternal identity begins to emerge. That is our Divine Personality, not shaped by the world, but by GOD YAHWEH Himself.
Lesson: The more we dissolve the ego, the more GOD YAHWEH’s Light shines through our unique soul.
5. Do Not Add or Subtract—Just Obey
“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it…” (Deuteronomy 4:2)
GOD YAHWEH does not need human improvement. His commandments are complete. True life and identity emerge not through customization of His Word, but through faithful obedience.
Lesson: Trust the design of GOD YAHWEH—it leads to life, clarity, and authenticity.
Final Reflection: Closeness to GOD YAHWEH (EL-YAH) Saves Lives
The message of these passages is urgent and timeless: Closeness to GOD YAHWEH (the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) is not optional—it is life-saving. Whether it’s Moses pleading for mercy, the Israelites falling to idolatry, or the faithful who held firm, the pattern is clear:
- Nearness to GOD YAHWEH = Life, Identity, Purpose
- Distance from GOD YAHWEH = Confusion, Death, and Illusion
Let us rediscover our true identity not by asserting the self, but by surrendering to the One who made us. The closer we get to GOD YAHWEH, the more truly ourselves we become.
